Chat Safety

Last updated: September 30, 2026

Every character you chat with in this app is an AI, not a person. This page describes what the app does in every conversation to keep that clear, and how it responds when someone may be at risk.

You are always told you are talking to an AI

  • An "AI" label sits next to the character's name at the top of every conversation.
  • A notice that you are chatting with an AI character, not a person, appears when a conversation starts and again at least every three hours while it continues.

If you mention suicide or self-harm

  • Every message you send in a conversation is checked by an automated system for signs of suicidal thoughts or self-harm, in any language.
  • When such signs are found, the app shows you a notice with free, confidential crisis support: in the United States, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988); elsewhere, Find A Helpline (findahelpline.com), which lists crisis lines in more than 175 countries.
  • Characters are instructed to respond with care, never to encourage self-harm, never to describe ways to do it, and to encourage you to reach out to a crisis line or someone you trust.
  • The check runs on the AI services named in our Privacy Policy.
